So if we are to be saved, so must our memories be saved. It is, I think, a hope of poets. But for the historian there must be something actual, some record must be somewhere. For the historian like the archeologist seeks to claim bones or whatever he can grasp of the dead. Somewhere we have convinced ourselves there must be blood. This country. I think the wind always blows here.
